ADA signs are signs designed and installed in public facilities to help people with disabilities navigate spaces independently, as required under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Generally, at all doorways in buildings open to the public and at any permanent room or space, both interior and exterior. See our ADA Signage Requirements guide for full details.
There are exceptions, including building directories, menus, seat/row designations, occupant names, building addresses, company names/logos, parking facilities, and temporary spaces used 7 days or less.
Non-compliance carries steep penalties — fines starting at $75,000 for a first violation, with additional $150,000 fines for each violation after that, and state/local rules can add even more exposure. Full details are on our ADA Signage Requirements page.
